Mr. V, residing in Hoang Mai, Hanoi, received a text message, claiming to be an employee of the Hoang Mai Tax Department, asking him to log in to Zalo to verify information about his newly established company to post on the Public Service Portal.

Seeing that the information about his company was correct, Mr. V downloaded the application provided by the subject, logged in with his bank account number and authenticated his face as required. However, on the second authentication, he became suspicious and called the bank to request to lock the account. However, just 2 minutes before the account was locked, the bad guy made 2 transactions, appropriating nearly 1 billion VND.

Hanoi police said that the fake application that Mr. V downloaded could access data, take screenshots, and remotely control the phone.
