Facebook provides blue ticks to authenticate genuine accounts. However, loopholes in the process of granting and managing blue ticks are being exploited by bad guys, creating many fake accounts and pages of government agencies and units to defraud and appropriate users' money and social network accounts.

One of the scam scenarios of bad guys is to create fake fanpages of "Security Department", "Ministry of Public Security", with interfaces identical to real pages and post content warning about scams with promises to help get back the money that was scammed, solve legal problems... Because of the blue tick, many people who have been scammed or have social network accounts trust these pages to seek help and are asked to provide personal information, bank accounts and instructions for transferring money to "do the procedures". As a result, they continue to lose money.

Bkav experts said that it is not difficult for bad guys to get blue ticks for fake accounts. They can take advantage of loopholes in Facebook's authentication process or use many other tricks such as: buying blue ticks from the black market, attacking and hijacking accounts then changing the content to fake pages or using "authentication for hire" services... Users should not absolutely trust the authenticity of blue ticks because it is clear that Facebook does not manage this well.

The Ministry of Public Security also recommends that people absolutely do not contact fanpages or social media accounts advertising services such as "receiving documents", "supporting money recovery", "recovering scammed money", even if they have a blue tick.
